2009 Illinois State Championship Trap Shoot

Rain, Rain, Go away…The severe weather that plagued the Midwest took dead aim on the Illinois Trap Shooters last week as they held their State Shoot. Imagine 800 plus shooters assembled for a weeks competition and every afternoon a thunderstorm “visits” with a present of a 1” or more of rain, lightning, high winds and the threat of tornados,
and that is the short version of this year’s State Shoot! To Britney Park’s credit, the trap fields held up quite well to Mother Nature’s “Stress Test” and afforded hot competition for the shooters. The grounds held up as well as could be expected. By the end of the competition the parking areas on the grass up and down the line were saturated. And those areas that so are so convenient in dryer weather, were impassable. By Sunday more then one vehicle needed help to the hard top. In spite of the conditions the competition was good and some excellent scores were shot. With this years attendance up, the question for next year is “Who’ll Stop the Rain?”.
